UKLA Masters Representative - VACANT

The 2025 Master European Championship is at Hayling Island Sailing Club 14-20 June.  There will undoubtedly be strong interest amongst the UKLA master membership.  The UKLA does not know how many places it will be allocated which may also depend upon the take-up rate by other ILCA Districts.  The UKLA master ladder will be used to determine priority for all places with the ladder cut off being events up until entry for the 2025 Master European Championship opens.

First round applications will only be supported by the UKLA for those sailors appearing on the ladder at the cut-off date in ladder order.  Second round applications, if any, will be prioritised in receipt order (as a second round application) after all first round applications have been offered a place.  Sailors who submit a first round application who do not appear on the Master Ladder will not be offered a place.

The UKLA strongly recommends attending the 2024 UKLA master events to maximise your chance of being offered an entry at the 2025 Master European Championships.

The 2024 UKLA Master events are as follows and the ladder takes a sailor's best 2 event results from the past 6 subject to a maximum 18 month look back period:

The Inlands is expected to be the final ladder event before the HISC Master Europeans as the ladder closes when the Europeans entry opens.

Introduction

The UKLA ILCA Master Series is for sailors who attain the age of 30 or more in the calendar year of the event.  Outside of Europe you must be 30 or older before the championship commences.  It is a fun, friendly, competitive circuit with close racing and good social events.

The UKLA ILCA Master Series Ladder for ILCA 7 and ILCA 6 rigs is the definitive ranking list for bragging rights.  It will also be used to rank sailors in performance order across Master Series events and will be used as the basis for selection and/or ranking for any ILCA or EURILCA events where qualification and/or ranking is required.

A minimum of 2 current Master Series Ladder ranking events are required to qualify for the World and European Championships as at the ranking cut-off (typically when applications for entry to these events open).  ILCA and EurILCA require the UKLA to approve all applications for entry before entry is offered to the sailor.  In exceptional circumstances the UKLA Committee may rank additional sailors.  Such decisions will be made at its sole discretion which will not be to the detriment of sailors with a current ranking who wish to attend.

Ranking Basis

The Ladder is a perpetual rolling ranking list where a sailor’s best two ranking event scores will be summed from the previous five ranking events subject to the following conditions.  Where six or more ranking events are held within a calendar year, the ranking scores will be taken from all events held in that calendar year.  Where one or more ranking event is cancelled the ranking list will remain as the best two ranking events from the previous five subject to a maximum look back period of eighteen months.  If the total number of ranking events within the eighteen month maximum period is less than five, the ranking will remain as the best two scores.  If less than two ranking events occur in the previous eighteen months, the UKLA Committee have the right to extend the look back period or use any alternative method, at its sole discretion, it deems appropriate.

The UKLA ILCA Masters Series will form the ranking events.  The desire is to hold at least five events in any calendar year although a greater or lesser number may be held.

Scoring

Scoring will be on a low points basis i.e. 1 point for 1st, 2 for 2nd etc. such that all sailors entered will receive ranking points.  Where a Master Series ranking event includes non-Master sailors within the same series of races, ranking scores will be based on the combined final results excluding the non-Master sailors e.g. 1st Master is 5th overall = 1st and 1 point, 2nd Master is 9th overall = 2nd and 2 points etc.  Did Not Compete will be scored 99 or the number of entries plus one point, whichever is the greater.

Ties will be broken in favour of:

·       the sailor with the most firsts, most seconds etc across the best two scoring events

·       if a tie remains it shall be decided in favour of the winning sailor in the last ranking event both competed in irrespective of whether it is a best two scoring event for either sailor

·       if a tie remains it will be broken in favour of the best 3rd result

·       if a tie remains it shall be broken in favour of the best 4th result

·       if a tie remains it shall be broken in favour of the sailor with the best result from the most recent event in which at least one competed

Restricted Entry Events

Priority for entry and charter boats at any restricted entry events will be based on the respective ILCA 7 and ILCA 6 Ladders at the ranking Entry Cut-off point irrespective of the sailor’s age category subject to:

·       all sailors must be current full Members of the UKLA

·       all sailors must be able to provide evidence that they are competent to race in winds over 25 knots

·       sailors ranking ahead on the respective Ladders will always have priority over those ranking below them

The Entry Cut-off date will be based on the earlier date between the opening date for applications to any restricted entry events or an alternative date notified on the UKLA website and will be based on the latest Ladder.  Failure to notify an Entry Cut-off date on the UKLA website will not be grounds for redress.

Where uncertainty remains after the application of these rules, places will be allocated at the sole discretion of the UKLA Committee.
